This Shiraz is deep in colour, with a youthful magenta at the rim. Elegant and perfumed, red fruits, sweet spices, pepper and a hint of violet jump from the glass. This wine is about grace and complexity rather than just raw power, and this is evident on the palate. Intense and layered with flavours of spice from newish but large oak, this wine is light-footed (thanks to a modest 13.3% alcohol) and beautifully balanced.
The fruit for this wine was grown on the Plunkett family vineyard ‘Whitegate’ in the elevated and cool Strathbogie Ranges of Central Victoria.
At harvest and throughout ferment, this parcel of fruit stood out as something special with a lovely perfume and lightness. The wine was fermented in an open topped fermenter which we ran at a coolish 23C to limit extraction of bitter tannins and to preserve the pretty fruit flavours. We matured the wine in a large 3000L new oak botte. This large format oak gives a nuance of spicy oak without overwhelming the wine.

Some of the spice flavours are from maturation in a newish but large oak cask, which adds a layer of complexity. This wine is about elegance and
