Citrus and blossom aromatics. Fresh acidity and extraordinary length of flavour.
Light gold in colour, this wine is intensely aromatic with a bevy of citrus,
spice and floral aromas, and a squeeze of subtle lime. The palate is dry and
crisp with great length of flavour and a zippy fresh finish.
The fruit for this wine was grown on Chris Bennett’s Antcliff’s Chase vineyard in the Strathbogie Ranges of Central Victoria. This is one of the highest and coolest vineyards in the region (and in the state), and grows some of the most exciting Riesling in the country.
Fruit was hand picked on 17th of March, destemmed and crushed into a tank press. This particular press is unusual in that it has two membranes which press to central slotted columns. This German design means we extract high quality juice at relatively low pressure (typically up to 1.2 bar) because the juice only has a short distance to travel through the skins before it can exit the press.
In the winery it is an easy wine to make well – we run a coolish ferment
(around 13C) to preserve the primary fruit flavour which is in abundance in this fruit, then get it to bottle shortly after vintage. The quality of this wine is all thanks to the outstanding site, and Chris’ love and attention in the vineyard. Many thanks for the grapes Chris!
